LAOAG CITY, June 7 — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Ilocos region has posted a P434-million income from tax collection from January-April this year. This was a 19-percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Laoag BIR placed third among six Ilocos RDOs in collection increase.
Records of BIR show that Revenue District Office (RDO) No. 4 in Calasiao, Pangasinan contributed the biggest share in the increase among the six RDOs in Region I with a P177.6 million increase. RDO No. 4 collection rose to P802.4 million as compared to last year’s P624.7 million.
Coming in second in terms of increase in collection is RDO No. 3 in San Fernando City, La Union with P88.2 million increase; followed by RDO No. 1 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte with P62.7 million; RDO No. 2 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur with P47.9 million; RDO No.5 in Alaminos City, Pangasinan with P35.1 million; and RDO No. 6 in Urdaneta City in Pangasinan with P22.7 million increase.
Over-all tax collection of BIR for the January-April this year amounted to P2.7 billion as compared to 2012’s P2.2 billion.
BIR Region 1 Assistant Regional Director Atty. Eduardo Pagulayan said that the remarkable increase can be attributed to the unrelenting efforts of BIR personnel in the collection process of value-added, income, estate, donor, and percentage taxes.
Pagulayan also said that the increase can also be attributed to the booming businesses in the area.
“Good collection is an indication that economy is good in a particular area. Chain reaction occurs,” he said.
He added that the merchandising sector like malls and infrastructure projects are the biggest contributors to tax collection this quarter. (Venus H. Sarmiento)
