Journalist Steve Barreiro writes “30”

PASUQUIN, Ilocos Norte, Sept. 5–In journalist’s parlance, a print media personality writes “30” if he or she dies of natural death.

But for columnist Steve Barreiro of Ilocos Times, he died of violent death. His precious life was snuffed by bullets. He was literally forced to write “30”.

Police said Steve, together with a companion, went to buy grocery goods inside a convenience store in this town when the lone gunman rapidly fired at him .

Investigators theorized love triangle as motive of the killing. At press time, the identified suspect remained at large, police said.

Steve served as board director of the Ilocos Norte Water District during the term of then Gov. Michael Marcos Keon. (JRG)
