Job Fair offers 3,300 overseas, local works

LAOAG CITY, Feb. 1 –Ilocano job seekers need not to go further from their homes as the provincial government of Ilocos Norte and the city government of Laoag will hold a first joint job fair for the year 2013.

This will be held tomorrow at the Laoag City, Centennial Arena from eight in the morning until four in the afternoon.

According to Eric Pascua of the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Ilocos Norte, over three thousand jobs are available for local and overseas employment.

Jobs available are for baccalaureate degree holders as well as for vocational, technical and even high school graduates.

“For overseas employment, there are 1,000 jobs offering from different countries while for local, we have 2,300 job vacancies”, Pascua said.

Many of the job orders for abroad are for skilled workers such as welders, metal fabricators, machinist, electricians, foreman as well as managerial positions and hospital staff.

Some of the jobs available for local are for call center agents, IT professionals, accounting personnel, for supermarket staff, but most of them are in the field of marketing and sales, he said.

“One of the advantages of having jobs fair within the province is that a job seeker spends less money and less time and minimal effort to find a job because job opportunities whether local or overseas are offered here under one roof,” Pascua added.

Both local governments keep on providing job opportunities for job seekers in the province, thus, reducing unemployment woes.

The joint undertaking was organized for the Ilocos Norte’s 195th founding anniversary and for the Laoag City’s ‘Pamulinawen Festival’ celebration, an annual festival celebrated for the whole month of February. (PIA1- Ilocos Norte/ Cherry Joy D. Garma)
