INWD prepares for El Niño

LAOAG CITY — In anticipation of the adverse effect of El Niño, the local water district here has started drilling additional wells in Laoag City, Badoc, and Solsona.

Ilocos Norte Water District General Manager John Teodoro said that since Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned the country of the possible El Niño adverse effect towards the end of the year and will last until the first few months of 2016, they have initiated several campaigns to reduce the harmful effect to the province.

He added that the local water district is in the process of upgrading the pumping facilities in the towns of Bacarra and Vintar.

INWD has also purchased stand-by generators in case of power outage in order to continue servicing its concessionaires.
Teodoro appealed to their consumers to observe water conservation as part of the anti-El Niño campaign. (tsg)
