INPJ needs more detention cells

Ilocos Norte Provincial Jail Warden Dario Estavillo said that there is an urgent need to construct additional detention cells due to increased congestion of inmates here.

He said that he requested the provincial engineering office to inspect the site where the four additional detention cells will be constructed at the jail facilities.

Estavillo said that the need to put up additional prison cells is in response to the increased number of arrested  individuals in the province, who are mostly illegal drug offenders.

He said that the current number of inmates at the facility leaped to 398.

Report said one small detention cell, for instance, is now occupied by 30 inmates.

With the increased number of the inmates, he said that the allocated budget for the inmates daily meals is no longer enough for the whole year.

He intends to make a request to the provincial government for a supplemental budget to cope with the problem.
