INPJ aids inmates due to summer heat

LAOAG CITY, March 18–Inmates at the Ilocos Norte provincial jail here will surely experience discomfort during the months of March, April and May due to summer heat.

To help ease the inmates’ woes, Jail Warden Dario Estavillo said the inmates are allowed to stay outside their detention cells during day time to avoid the summer heat.

He added that those inmates suffering with asthma and hypertension are transferred to the old INPJ building for their comfort.

Estavillo said to date, there are 240 inmates compared to last year’s 150 of same month.

“Our problem is water supply though we have the INWD water connection. Our deep wells’ water level goes down. If possible, the inmates must take a bath twice a day to cool themselves and avoid heat stroke,” the warden stressed.(tsg w/ mm report)
