LAOAG CITY, Dec. 29 — The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative promises a more reliable power service next year when its proposed P35.6 million substation in this city will be approved.
The proposed installation of the 10 MVA substation will match the power requirements of two new establishments, Puregold Supermart and SM Hypermart which both started operating in the last quarter of the year. The proposed substation was submitted for approval to the Energy Regulatory Commission last June.
Rey Lazo, Inec Board President, said the new substation will answer the additional power requirements of Puregold with a power load of 1.5 MVA and SM Hypermart with a power load of 1 MVA.
“The new substation will also correct power fluctuations around the city’s business district,” he said.
Aside from the substation, Inec officials also sought the installation of a power transformer and the construction of a 69kV transmission line.
In seeking the ERC’s approval for a new substation, Inec said additional power capacity will also result in improved service voltage and expanded service to potential customers.
“It will also improve system reliability while the distribution system will be operated in a safe and efficient manner,” it said.
Lazo said Inec’s system capacity will increase and, in the process, reduce its power loss.
“We also expect additional sales and revenues with the rising economic growth in Laoag,” he said.
The new sub-station will be located in Barangay Lorenzo in this city. (Ma. Cristina C. Arzadon)
