ILOCOS NORTE (September 08) – Paoay Mayor Bobby Clemente, newly-elected mayors league president of Ilocos Norte, has confirmed that his fellow officers and members of the league reset their China trip to indefinite date.
Clemente said the league during its regular meeting had unanimously postponed their trip for fear that the Chinese people might vent their ire on them in the wake of the infamous Aug. 23 Luneta hostage crisis that claimed the lives of eight Hongkong tourists.
He disclosed that the group was earlier set to travel to China on observation tour but chose to cancel it for their personal safety.
Clemente stressed that his fellow mayors opted to wait for the issue to cool off before they will push through with their travel plan. Some wanted to go to other places in Asia but majority favored the China journey, he added.
