I.N. has now 59 HIV cases

LAOAG CITY – In the light of the celebration of World Aids Day on December 1, the Provincial Health Office (PHO) expressed concern over the alarming rate of HIV cases in the province.

Dr. Josephine Ruedas, PHO head, said that there are already 59 cases of HIV in the province as compared to only 42 cases last year.

She added that of the said cases there are 9 full blown aids while 50 cases are only asymptomatic.

“All the patients are being treated at the treatment Hub at the MMMH MC,” she added.

She further said that a free HIV testing at the same hospital is being offered since May 2015.

She attributed the increasing rate to the low advocacy from various groups  plus discrimination from society unlike other infectious diseases which are now accepted.

She said that the Duterte administration is geared towards the fight against the proliferation of HIV cases in the country. (tsg)
