High–quality local products showcased in Ilocos trade fair

LAOAG CITY, May 16 (PIA) – – High quality products from the different towns of Ilocos provinces were showcased for sale to the public on Thursday for a 10- day trade fair at the premises of the historic bell tower in Laoag City.

Set on May 12 -22, 2016, the 9th OTOP (One Town One Product) Summer Trade Fair and Garden Show is initiated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in partnership with the Partuat ti Kailokuan Association and Diocese of Laoag in coordination with the provincial government of Ilocos Norte and city government of Laoag.

Director Benjamin Garcia, head of DTI- Ilocos Norte, said the trade fair is an annual event aiming to promote the attractive and world – class quality products of Ilocos provinces.

“The continued conduct of the summer trade fair and garden show takes advantage of the influx of tourists and balikbayans visiting the province during summer season,” he said.

“The trade fair, which is open from 9:00AM to 8:00 PM, is considered as the best venue for our local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to showcase their products and to introduce or promote their newly developed products,” he added.

The trade fair was formally opened through a joint ribbon- cutting rite by Charito Cariaga, the vice president of the PIKA, Director Garcia and lawyer Wendell Chua – the provincial administrator.

Among the products exhibited in the trade fair are the attractive handwoven crafts (inabel clothing) and other handicraft products; garden plants; pottery products, wooden sala sets; and various delicious Ilocano food delicacies like the empanada and many more.

Aside from the MSMEs in Ilocos Norte, the other exhibitors of the trade exposition are come from the provinces of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan and Abra. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA- 1 Ilocos Norte/Romnick Quimoyog, MMSU Intern)
