Grade 12 student drowns in dam

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte, July 4–La Union-based Coast Guard divers retrieved the body of a Grade 12 student who allegedly drowned in a deep murky dam here, a report said.
The victim was a resident of Brgy. Catuguing, this town and a student of San Nicolas national high school.
Police investigation showed that the victim and nine classmates went to the dam for an apparent “school-related activity”.
Amid their fun, the victim allegedly dived into the water. When he failed to resurface, his classmates worried and called for help.
Reacting to the incident, school authorities clarified that their teacher did not authorize the said group of students to go on outdoor activity.
As a strict policy, only inside campus activities are allowed by the school to safeguard the students from danger or harm, they said. (tri-media report)
