Gov issues EO for I. Norte’s bicentennial celebration in 2018

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through Executive Order No. 83- 12 issued by Gov. Imee R. Marcos announced the creation of a bicentennial council in preparation for the 200th foundation celebration of the province in 2018.

The governor made the announcement shortly after the opening program of the 194th founding anniversary of the province last February 2.

According to Gov. Marcos, the celebration of the 200th year of the province is nearly approaching, thus, the necessity to organize and prepare for that big day in 2018.

“On February 2, 2018, it is important that we celebrate the bicentennial of the province with fitting activities worthy of significance as a milestone in the life of the province and ample time is necessary to make such preparations,” Marcos added.

Under the executive order, the council is generally commissioned to initiate the preparation of the bicentennial celebration of the province in 2018 and coordinate programs and policies in accomplishing specific projects, goals, and targets purposely to highlight the meaning of the celebration.

“The provincial government aims to give the event a great meaning. Therefore, we intend to involve a broad participation of all Ilocano people from the province up to the upwards level including those who are living abroad with Ilocano ancestry,” the governor revealed.

The Ilocos Norte Bicentennial Council is composed of Gov. Marcos and Vice Gov. Angelo M. Barba as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively, the members of the Provincial Board, League of Municipal Mayors President Hon. Bonifacio Clemente, Jr., League of Municipal Vice Mayors President Hon. Thomas Torralba, Philippine Councillors League President Quezon Alejandro, Association of Barangay Councils President Jessie Galano, Provincial SK Federation President Rodolfo Farinas, Jr.

Other members of the council include the Schools Division Superintendents, State and Private University Presidents, PGIN Department Heads, National Government Agencies, and Non- Government Organizations. (Florante A. Nicolas, PGIN- CMO)
