Free concerts by Parokya ni Edgar, Rocksteddy

Marcos Fiesta will give a back-to-back treat to Ilocanos as Parokya ni Edgar and Rocksteddy, two of the most sought after OPM rock bands, are set to perform free concerts this September.

Slated on September 11, 8:00PM at the Imelda Marcos Cultural Center, Batac City, Da Real Makoy Concert is a tribute to the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos on the occasion of his 97th birth anniversary. It will feature Rocksteddy who was known for their hits “Lagi Mo Na Lang Akong Dinededma” and “Superhero” and later also scored hits with their covers of the Apo Hiking Society’s “Blue Jeans” and the Juan Dela Cruz band’s “No Touch”. Its leader and front man Teddy Corpuz is a mainstay of the ABS-CBN noontime show, “It’s Showtime”.

Running for three years now since 2012, this concert is known for featuring many famous Filipino artists and celebrities such as Mitoy Yonting, the first The Voice champion, rock band Spongecola, stand-up comedians Pooh, Beverly Salviejo and Ethel Booba.

Other activities scheduled for the said concert are the first ever battle for local “tamboreros” (drummers), a stomp showdown and a flash mob performance which was able to draw 1,500 participants the previous year.

A solo concert of Parokya ni Edgar is set on September 13 at the Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena, Laoag City as culmination of the fiesta. The pop-rock novelty band is composed of Chito Miranda, Buwi Meneses, Darius Semana, Gab Chee Kee, and Din Din Moreno who rose to fame in the early ‘90s when the local alternative music started a trend. They popularized the songs “Buloy,” “Maniwala Ka Sana,” “Don’t Touch My Birdie,” “Harana,” “Halaga,” “Inuman Na,” “Mr. Suave,” “The Yes Yes Show,” “This Guy’s in Love with You, Pare,” and “Papa Cologne,” among others. –Grazielle Mae A.
