Fiscal commits suicide?

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur, April 8–Government prosecutor Benedicto Alvarado allegedly shot and killed himself based on an apparent suicide note found in his pocket, initial police report said. His body bore a gunshot on the chest.

Police investigators said they recovered near his body one caliber .45 pistol, believed to be the fatal weapon used in the shooting.

“We heard a gunfire at 6 o’clock this morning,” said relatives who later saw him fallen lifeless on the ground located beside his house here.

Supt. Jugith del Prado, police chief, said bullet trajectory and close-range angle would be known based on the empty shell and slug recovered at the scene.

His teary-eyed wife Natividad could hardly talk about the incident noting she didn’t expect it to happen.

Report said the victim worked as fiscal in Bangued, Abra and used to go home only on weekend.(jg/bm)
