DTI marks Consumers Welfare Month

LAOAG CITY– The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is celebrating Consumer’s Welfare Month this October.

One of the continuing concerns of the local agency is to protect the consuming public against unreasonable price increases or deceitful practices of the business entities.

As part of the celebration, DTI is conducting consumerism lectures to the different high schools and municipalities in the province.

The event aims to enhance awareness of students and the general public on the extent of consumer education by intensifying consumer awareness.

Moreover, DTI-Ilocos Norte is still on the process of inspecting and issuing Import Commodity Clearance stickers to riders until December 31, 2012. This program of the DTI is part of the accreditation of all motorists in the province.

Also part of this is a scheduled mobile issuance of ICC stickers for helmets to National Tobacco Administration employees.

Remedios Sasutil, officer-in-charge of Consumers Welfare Division, said the National Consumer Assembly is set on October 11 at the Mall of Asia, Manila, wherein one in every province are invited to attend the said assembly.

Espousing the theme“Get Organized, Be Heard, Be Empowered,” the celebration aims to promote awareness of both public and private sector on complaints and policies affecting consumer and encourage dialogue and cooperation among consumers, business and government.

The Consumer Welfare Month Celebration is being celebrated in consonance with the Republic Act 1098 or the Consumers Welfare Act. (Nova C De Rosas)
