DOST1 garners Most Outstanding Project Monitor Award from RDC

The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST1), headed by Dr. Armando Q. Ganal, was awarded the Most Outstanding Project Monitor- Category A2016by the Regional Development Council (RDC) on May 9, 2017 at Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, during the State of the Region Development Conference.

The Most Outstanding Project Monitor Award was granted in recognition of its timely submission of project monitoring reports consistent with the objectives of the Regional Project Monitoring and Evaluation System (RPMES) being implemented by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

The award was categorized based on the number of projects being implemented.Category A for entities implementing 1-10 projects, Category B for 11-30 projects, and Category Cfor projects above 30.DOST1 bested theother contenders from Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCCs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Regional Line Agencies (RLAs), and Provincial LGUs in the whole regionunder Category A.

DOST1 enrolled the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) which assisted a total of 23 firms and generated employment for 2,220 individuals in 2016.

The project was evaluated in two major areas, the Annual Project Monitoring Plan and submission of Quarterly Reports, which included the quality of reports, timeliness of submission, and overall project performance.

“I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude and congratulation to all the staff of the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office for a job well done.We were able to get the coveted award of being the most outstanding project monitor for the year 2016, award given by the RDC Region 1.This is a very big achievement on our part being able to implementour enrolled projects to the RDC with the full commitment and the interest to achieve our objectives. I hope it will serve as an inspiration to all of us to go further and achieve more of what we are doing in the region so that we will be able to harvest or reap additional awards for all of us,” said Dr. Ganal.

He also recalled that DOST1 was the Most Outstanding Project implementer winner during the time of Director Elsa R. Chan, when he was the project monitor.

SETUP assistance had been granted to 37 firms this year while the effort to invite more micro, small, and medium enterprises to adopt technologies and avail assistance from SETUP is continuous.
