DOST cites Ilocos Norte as country’s best BPO site

LAOAG CITY, April 8 (PIA) – The Department of Science and Techonology (DOST) has awarded Ilocos Norte as one of the country’s outstanding alternative hubs of Information Technology–Business Process Management (IT-BPM).

Governor Imee Marcos received the award during the awarding rites held in Makati City on March 30.

The recognition was conferred by the DOST–Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) together with the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines (IBPAP) and Leechio Property Consultants (LPC).

For the second time since 2012, Ilocos Norte was also handed the Best Infrastructure Award, noting the province’s quality of roads, availability of hotels, presence of international and domestic roads, power infrastructure and telecommunications infrastructure among others.

Marcos said modern infrastructure and significant supply of talents are two of the most essential resources of the province that can contribute to the growing success of the country’s IT-BPM industry.

Vowing to make more jobs available in Ilocos Norte, Marcos has been making intensive efforts to attract Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies to invest in the province.

She said Ilocos Norte has wide availability of talented and skilled workforce making the province as an ideal venue for BPO investment.

With this, Accenture and Expert Global Solutions, two of the world’s leading BPO companies, have opened their branch centers in Ilocos Norte offering a total of 6,500 jobs for the Ilocanos. (Freddie G. Lazaro)
