DOLE opens 24/7 hotline

To respond to labor-related concerns, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Ilocos recently opened a 24/7 hotline service for  workers.

Labor and Employment Officer Panfilo Dioquino Jr. of DOLE-Dagupan said answers and clarifications regarding labor laws, wages and rights are just a text or phone call away when citizens contact hotline numbers 0916-649-5084 or 0998-248-7688 anytime.

“The DOLE hotline is ready to accept callers’ labor-related concerns: from compensation and benefits, to rights and privileges, working conditions, labor relations, post-employment issues, among others” he said during the Pantongtongan Tayo (Pag-Usapan Natin) radio program of PIA-Pangasinan on Tuesday.

Dioquino said this is the department’s response to the directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to all government agencies to ensure that queries and concerns of the public will be immediately acted upon.

“With this hotline, DOLE’s services become accessible for workers as they can use their mobile phones to air their grievances from the convenience of their homes so no need for them to go to the department’s field offices,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dioquino said his agency is holding a series of consultations on contracting and sub-contracting to carry out the thrust of the new administration to eliminate “endo” and labor-only contracting which are both illegitimate forms of contracting.

A consultation was held in this city last September 21 while another consultation is scheduled for La Union on October 4. Preparations for consultations for the rest of Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur are underway. (April M. Montes/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
