For Dianne Irish Joy Lacayanga, winning the title of Miss Ilocos Norte 2017 may be a step closer to achieving her dream of becoming a beauty queen in national or global level.

This 19-year-old lass from the historic Paoay town bested 22 other contestants in the annual search for Miss Ilocos Norte 2017 held on Tuesday, May 16 at the newly well-ventilated Centennial Arena in Laoag City.

A 5’ 8” tall in height and tourism management student, Dianne also snatched several special awards, namely, Best in Evening Gown, Best in Festival Terno and Best in Swimsuit.

She previously competed in the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2016 and landed among the top 10 finalists in the said search where she represented herself as Miss Paniqui, Tarlac 2016.

Before and after winning the title, she was confronted with several criticisms particularly her detractors’ allegation that she’s a non-resident in the province.

However, close relatives say Dianne hails from sitio Murmuray, Brgy. Nagbacalan, Paoay, Ilocos Norte as posted on her Facebook account.

Despite this, she was unfazed by the negative comments and proved her courage to do her best.

As this year’s reigning Miss Ilocos Norte, she vowed to play the role as ambassador of goodwill for the province, among others, especially in quality education and tourism promotions. (Theo S. Guiang)
