Currimao Maritime Gets P1.7M Worth Rubber Boat

LAOAG CITY (September 17) – A 1.7-million-peso worth rubber boat has been turned over to the seaborne troopers of the PNP Maritime Group based in Currimao, Ilocos Norte.

Gov. Imee Marcos said that the rubber boat will be used in the province’s campaign against illegal fishing (or any contraband activities).

It was learned that said boat was given by PNP authorities from Camp Crame, through the efforts of Gov. Marcos, who personally made the request.

Inspector Constante Campañano, head of maritime group in Currimao, said that the boat could carry up to 12 passengers. It has a 60-horse power motor.

Campañano said that the boat would bolster their capabilities in running after those fishing vessels involved in illegal fishing (or any smuggling activities).

In its maiden operation yesterday (September 16) off Brgy. Pangil, Currimao, Ilocos Norte, Campañano reported that the boat crew had apprehended a small fishing boat with gadget called “karkar.” About 10 kilos of fish apparently caught in underwater explosion were seized.
