Bangui school wins stat quiz

LAOAG CITY, Oct. 17 – A total of 26 secondary schools in Ilocos Norte competed in the provincial elimination for the National Statistics Quiz at the Department of Education provincial division office.

The Bangui National High School (BNHS) was declared champion besting two schools who earlier tied during the final round.

The Ilocos Norte College of Arts and Sciences- High School Department (INCAT) took the first place while Sarrat National High School-Special Science Class (SNHS-SCS) was awarded second place.

The students were given ten questions each in the easy, average and difficult rounds with corresponding time limit depending on its difficulty.
The questions were fairly distributed on statistical computation, general information, current events and personalities.

In the final round, judges had to break the tie between the three schools who garnered the same 16 points in the accumulated scores.

BNHS will represent Ilocos Norte in the Regional Statistics Quiz on October 20 in San Fernando City, La Union.

The annual National Statistics Quiz is part of the 25th celebration of the National Statistic Month this October spearheaded by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

PSA is the reorganization of four major statistical agencies, namely: National Statistics Office (NSO); National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB); Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS); and Bureau of Labor and Employment Statistics (BLES).

By virtue of the Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013, the merging paved way to a more accurate data collection and compilation of secondary data and for the strengthening of Philippine Statistical System. (MCA/CDG, PIA-1, Ilocos Norte)
