PROJECT BACKGROUND

Basa Pilipinas is USAID/Philippines’ flagship basic education project in support of the Philippine Government’s early grade reading program. Implemented in close collaboration with the Department of Education (DepED), Basa Pilipinas aims to improve the reading skills for at least one million early grade students in Filipino, English and selected mother tongues. This will be achieved by improving reading instruction, reading delivery systems, and access to quality reading materials. The project commenced in January 2013 and will be implemented for four years (2013-2016).

Basa Pilipinas focuses activities in five DepEd divisions in the provinces of La Union, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cebu, and Bohol.

 

OUR REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for qualified Data Collectors/Assessors to support the project’s Monitoring and Evaluation and Research activities in November 2015 and January-February 2016.  Candidates are expected to have:

  • Experience in classroom instruction in early grades preferred
  • understanding of the complexities of reading instruction
  • Bachelor’s level education; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in administering EGRA an advantage
  • fluency in one of the following languages preferred: Ilokano, Cebuano, or Tagalog

Basa Pilipinas will provide all needed orientation and training.

All candidates are expected to be flexible and result-oriented, able to plan and organize, work effectively alone and as part of a team, perform well under pressure, and able to multi-task.

Successful candidates will be engaged under a temporary, short-term contract.  They will be required to travel to respective area of assignment to participate in the data collection/assessment activities.  Related costs will be on EDC account and logistical support will be provided to schedule travel and book accommodation.  Aside from an attractive professional fee, EDC offers an opportunity for a rewarding experience to work in the development sector.
