“A Cause for August” blitz for Laoageños

LAOAG CITY — City officials led by Mayor Chevylle Farinas hold anew the month-long activities from social services to gift-giving this August 1-30, 2013.

Dubbed ‘A Cause for August’, the Laoag City government had institutionalized the event as a time for gift-giving, educational contests, sports events, concerts, livelihood programs, environmental activities and other projects intended for children and the elderly.

The event kicked off with a group of school children who paraded on the streets of Laoag with their fruits-and vegetables-like costumes and floats on August 1.

The event’s opening included a “Tiangge”, organized by the City Agriculturist Office where fresh fruits and vegetables were sold to the public at cheaper prices.

‘A Cause for August’ is also a run-up to the birthday of the former Laoag City mayor now Vice-mayor Michael V. Fariñas.

One of the celebration highlights is “Wish ko kay Mayor” in which poor residents, specially the handicapped, are granted their wishes, from crutches to wheelchairs, grocery items, appliances, livelihood start-up kits, bikes and tri-bikes and other items from the wish-list sent to the mayor.
Other activities lined up this month include tree planting on August 6, fun day with persons with disabilities on August 7, free trial of the CT Scan services of the Laoag City General Hospital (LCGH) on August 9-15, Kaya ni Lolo, Kaya ni Lola organized by the City Social Welfare and Development Office on August 16, Teacher ko si Mayor on August 19, free movie viewing on August 20-25, Free cataract operation on August 26-28, mass wedding on August 28, livelihood dispersal on August 29 and scholarship awarding on August 30.

A Cause for August also offers job opportunities to Laoageños through the ‘Trabaho Mo, Sagot Ko’ program of the city government on August 8.

Now on its 10th year celebration, Laoagueños look forward to the celebration as one worthy and noble undertaking. (MCA/CJDG PIA1-Ilocos Norte)
