LAOAG CITY, January 19 (PIA) – The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has asked locals to help secure its towers in the Ilocos region following a series of bombing that hit the company’s towers in Mindanao late last year.
The power grid company made the appeal to prevent the possible blasting of its towers in Northern Luzon following the bombing incidents in 2015 in Mindanao that damaged NGCP’s 15 power lines towers.
The destruction of NGCP towers had caused a widespread power interruptions in the area.
“Although, we had not yet received any bomb threats for our towers in Northern Luzon, we remained steadfast in appealing to the residents to help us secure these towers holding our transmission lines to avoid what has happened in Mindanao last year,” said Lilibeth P. Gaydowen, the spokesperson of the NGCP’s Northluzon Area.
She asked the residents in the communities hosting their towers to report any suspicious activities near their transmission lines to ensure the safety of its transmission service.
The NGCP was on heightened alert in the Ilocos area last month following the bombing of a tower owned by the Lepanto Consolidated Mining Corp. in Mankayan, Benguet.
To further assure the safety of the power transmission lines in the Ilocos, the NGCP also requested the aid from the police and military units.
Meanwhile, the NGCP assured the smooth transmission of sustainable power supply to Ilocos following the energization of 230-kiloVolt (kV) line plying from San Esteban, Ilocos Sur to Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA-1 Ilocos Norte)
