7,747 voters can’t vote in Laoag City

LAOAG CITY – City Election Officer Atty. Julius Balbas has reported that at least 10% of the total voting population of the city was disenfranchised in the coming May 9 election.

He said that 7,747 of the 73,351 failed to register their biometrics.

Balbas revealed that the number could be considered significant since it would “greatly affect the ranking of the winning candidates for Sangguniang Panlungsod.”

He clarified the COMELEC should not be blamed for these disenfranchised voters since they have done their part in reminding the qualified voters to have their biometrics taken. (tsg)
