7 injured as jeepney falls off ravine

SARRAT, Ilocos Norte (June 7) – At least seven people luckily survived a road accident when a passenger jeepney they were riding in fell off a 40-meter-deep ravine in San Isidro, this town on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said that the driver of the passenger jeep with a Laoag-Banna-Nueva Era route was charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple serious physical injuries.

The driver claimed that when he overtook another jeepney, his PUV’s tire suddenly blew-up causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

Police identified those injured as Maricel Sadian, teacher and her son Ronald, 9; Andrew Caliva, 42; Emelia Macaburas, 68; Christain Jay Calabitin, 14; Erica Calabitin, 15, and driver Jervis Lloyd Emnace, 24.

All were released later from the hospital except Calabitin, who is under observation due to a fractured shoulder. (tsg)
