NUEVA ERA, Ilocos Norte — Mayor Aldrin Garvida of this upland town reported that a free housing project for his less fortunate constituents will soon be built here under the joint undertaking of the municipal and provincial governments.
He said that it will be the first for a local government unit in Ilocos Norte to offer free housing benefits to indigent families.
Garvida explained that this project would be implemented by LGU-Nueva Era through the assistance of the provincial government of Ilocos Norte under Gov. Imee Marcos.
Under the first phase, at least 50 poor families will be the initial beneficiaries.
Garvida said the project intends to address the perennial problems of families whose houses are built of light materials that whenever typhoon hits the province, their dwellings easily get destroyed by strong winds.
He said that LGU-Nueva Era and PGIN will provide construction materials such as cement, steel bars, galvanized roofing, nails, etc. for the project. (Theo S. Guiang)
