52 floats compete at Pamulinawen grand parade

LAOAG CITY, Feb.15 (PIA) – Thousands of fiesta revelers including foreign and local enjoyed watching the grand parade of  dressed-up floats made of indigenous materials during the  Pamulinawen Festival here.

At least 52 floats representing different towns, barangays, private companies and non-government organizations joined the parade of floats which competed in  small float and the big float categories.
The  M. Lhuillier float won the P80,000 grand prize for the big float category while the float of Barangay Darasdas, Solsona, Ilocos Norte bagged the first place in the small float category with  P40,000 cash prize.

Laoag City Mayor Chevylle Fariñas said “it was another milestone for Laoag City, the sunshine city and northern gateway of the Philippines, as it continued its journey towards prominence and excellence.

She noted that the 19th Pamulinawen festival celebration is a prelude to the golden anniversary of Laoag’s cityhood on June 19, 2015.

The cityhood charter of Laoag City was approved on June 19, 1965 by virtue of Republic Act 4584 or the conversion of the municipality of Laoag into a city. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA- 1 Ilocos Norte)
