SARRAT, Ilocos Norte, Aug. 1–At least 20 poor old folks, some partially blind and limping, were deceived by a texter who claimed to be an “employee” of the Ilocos Norte provincial capitol in Laoag City.
The texter told the two barangay chairmen of Brgys. 3 and 23 of this town to recommend ten widowed people from each of their barangays and bring them to the provincial capitol where Gov. Imee Marcos would give them financial aids.
The poor folks, accompanied by their barangay officials and relatives, rushed to the capitol in happy mood. However, they were dismayed when they learned no such thing as governor’s financial help for them.
Report did not say if the folks went home totally empty-handed. The incident was probably the handiwork of a prankster who posed as “capitol employee”, an observer surmised.(tsg/bbr)
