LAOAG CITY, Oct. 20 — Fifteen business establishments were caught recently by the government monitoring team for violating fair trade laws in Batac City, Ilocos Norte.
According to Remy Sasutil, officer-incCharge of the Consumer Welfare Division of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the province, the business establishments were caught during their regular monitoring and inspection in the city.
“We found that these businesses do not have price tags on the products they sell. Others do not display their certificate of business registration while others are not registered with the DTI,” Sasutil said.
He added that there were some business establishments who used a different name “simply because they do not like the business name approved by the DTI.”
Most of the businesses are eateries in the public market and beauty parlors.
The DTI has given these establishments seven days to comply or they will pay penalties of at least P500 to a maximum of P150,000.
Aside from the monitoring and inspection of business establishments, tDTI is also conducting lectures on consumer welfare in various high schools in the towns of Solsona and Burgos and consumer associations in the towns of Pasuquin and Vintar.
The DTI leads the nation in this year’s celebration of Consumer Welfare Month with the theme “Sapat, Ligtas at Abot-kayang pagkain para sa lahat ng Pilipino.” (ANL/CPC-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
