VP BINAY: CALUNGSOD SAINTHOOD WILL RENEW FAITH OF FILIPINOS

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay expressed optimism that the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod will revitalize and strengthen the faith of Filipinos worldwide.

“I am confident that after the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod, we will have a renewal of faith among Filipinos, especially among our youth and our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) who will surely be inspired by his life and sacrifice,” he said.

“You can feel it in the joyful celebration that greeted the canonization of St. Calungsod in the Vatican, in the Philippines, and in the Filipino communities around the world,” he added.

Earlier, the Vice President said he hopes St. Calungsod will serve as patron saint of Filipino workers abroad and will encourage them to remain strong despite being away from their families.

Binay concurrently serves as Presidential Adviser on OFW Affairs. He represented President Benigno Aquino III and led 5,000 Filipinos to the canonization of St. Pedro Calungsod at the Vatican City in Rome.

The Vice President will proceed to Israel today to meet Israeli President Shimon Perez. He is expected to discuss further strengthening of the bilateral ties between Philippines and Israel.

Binay is also set to talk with Israeli government ranking officials to explore cooperation in agriculture and trade, meet with the Filipino community, and visit the Holocaust Museum.
