PNOY SHOULD CONTINUE TO BUILD ON GAINS – CHIZ

President Benigno C. Aquino III should continue to build on gains achieved in the past three years, particularly on the transparency and accountability of public officials, according to Sen. Chiz Escudero.

“We continue to support measures that promote full transparency and accountability of public servants. This, to me, is one of President Aquino’s most significant achievements, and he has to continue building on this achievement,” Escudero said in a statement.

President Aquino delivered his third State of the Nation Address Monday afternoon where he expounded on his administration’s accomplishments.

“In fairness to him, the President has made great strides in addressing the problem of graft. This is what has been behind all his accomplishments. Now, he must build on this because progress is dependent on it,” Escudero said.

Escudero, chairman of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights, authored Senate Bill 107 which requires public officials and employees to submit a written permission of waiver in favor of the Ombudsman to look into bank deposits.

The senator had also pushed for a more comprehensive whistle-blower protection bill that will provide more options to potential state witnesses in choosing the government agency they want to seek shelter for personal security.

He has asked the House of Representatives to approve Senate Committee Report No. 47 on Senate Bill 2860 or the proposed Act Providing for Protection, Security and Benefits of Whistleblowers.

“The President is committed to promoting greater transparency and accountability in government. He should continue to work for this program because it has contributed greatly to a better perception of the country both here and abroad,” Escudero said.
