PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, June 13 (PIA) – A town mayor in Ilocos Norte called for peace for the nation during the flag-raising ceremony in observance of the 119th celebration of Independence Day on Monday.

Mayor Jessie Galano of Paoay, Ilocos Norte appealed to his fellow public servants to keep peace among themselves and remember the sacrifices of this nation’s heroes for the restoration of freedom.

Moreover, the mayor of this fourth-class town, asked colleagues in the government to free themselves from hatred and self-interest. Instead, he prompted them to show selfless love and peace with each other.

“Truly, independence means every individual should have freeness of mind. During the time of the Katipuneros, there was selfish motive because that is a nature of an individual,” he said.

“I am encouraging everyone, even the smallest unit- the barangay, to have unity and camaraderie with each other setting aside self-interests,” he added.

Capping his message, he urged the locals to trust the people in authority and position.

“Let’s put our trust and confidence to our elected officials especially to our police,” he said.
