What Are You Thankful For?

LizaOne of the attitudes of successful people is their being thankful. Successful people choose to have a positive attitude towards something especially in a very challenging event rather than complain about how difficult the situation is.

They choose to be thankful rather than be angry at things, people and events that appear unsupportive of them achieving their goals.

10 Things

Getting angry at someone or something is ultimately more costly for you than the offending person or thing. Getting angry distracts us from our tasks and diminishes our energy for what is important.

When you do need to get angry, do. Just don’t make that offending person, thing or event the center of your universe. Take a moment and shout, “You s*n of a b***h!” That should be enough to diffuse your anger and for you to move on to important things.

What I usually do when I feel like events are not in my favor is to count my blessings. I make a list of the things I am thankful for at that moment. For example, this morning I woke up late with just 4 hours of sleep. Instead of complaining and bemoaning my fate of not being born a trust fund baby, I listed of the things I am blessed with today. Some of these are as follows:

  1. I still have time to do my morning exercises
  2. I have a bag big enough for my shoes and school things so I don’t need to bring two
  3. I didn’t spend so much time in the bus stop waiting for a ride
  4. I arrived at my foreign language class well before it started
  5. My Rotary seminar is just a few meters from my language class

It is no use getting angry. No matter how angry we become, what happened is in the past and can never be changed.

Smile

When the going gets tough, it’s not that the tough gets going, but rather the tough smiles.

Even if you think there is nothing to smile about, force your face muscles to form one. Even a tremulous smile will eventually turn full blown, then you will feel better. That’s worth moving some few muscles about, isn’t it?

During times I find it difficult to force a smile, I find it easier to look at my favorite pictures. I have in my iPhone an album of the happy and wonderful memories I have with my loved ones and friends. Seeing me sharing a smile with these people doesn’t fail to produce a smile even in the gloomiest times.

You, what makes you happy? What makes your day?

Interesting Money Facts. It’s true that you can find Pinoys everywhere. It is a fact that some of our kababayan have to go to a foreign country to find a job which gives them enough to support their family. It is also true that OFWs bring with them Filipino values – honesty, integrity and loyalty among others – that are admired the world over.

My cousin, Dondon, works in the Middle East. He recently got a commendation from his boss when he demonstrated some of these values. While doing his job in one of his employer’s airplanes, he came upon some items and cash worth about P20,000 left by a passenger. He promptly turned over what he found to his superiors.

I know that for OFWs who earn a little bit more than this amount, what my cousin did was truly commendable. I am so proud to call him my cousin.
