Town councilor, driver unhurt in ambush

SOLSONA, Ilocos Norte, March 25–Reelectionist Sangguniang Bayan member Jovencio Pascua of this town and his driver emerged unscathed when they were ambushed in Brgy. Manalpac here, police reported.

Senior Inspector Chris Anthony Sorsano, town police chief, said the victims aboard a car were on their way home when the gunmen riding in tandem attacked them.

Investigation showed that the victims eluded fatal attack when the driver Sydney Viloria quickly maneuvered their SUV backward upon seeing the suspects draw their gun.

Their car hit a concrete fence of a nearby house while back warding as the gunmen continued firing at them about 15 meters away. The suspects fled on their motorcycle.

Councilor Pascua managed to wear his bullet-proof vest upon sensing the impending danger, his driver said.

The victims’ car side bore marks of bullet holes.

Investigators found at the crime scene several empty shells of bullets for an automatic assault rifle, two magazines, and a sack.

It was the second slay attempt on Councilor Pascua’s life which occurred in November last year. (tri-media report)
