P3 trike fare hike in Batac City OK’d

BATAC CITY – A P3-peso increase in the current P11 basic tricycle fare in this city will soon be implemented as the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte has finally approved the city’s ordinance prescribing the new tricycle fare rates.

Batac City Mayor Albert Chua said earlier that the fare adjustment will take effect immediately upon its approval by the provincial board.

Under the Ordinance No. 4SP 2018-18, the new fare rate is PHP14 minimum fare for the first 1.5 km. and an additional PHP1 for every succeeding kilometer. Student fare is pegged at PHP12.50 for the first 1.5 km. and PHP1 for every succeeding kilometer.

Both the senior citizens and persons with disabilities shall continue to enjoy a 20-percent discount from the regular fare provided they present their authorized identification cards.

In order to protect commuters from abusive tricycle drivers and operators, who demand overcharge rates from their passengers, the Ordinance imposes a charge of PHP200 to PHP600 penalty and a possible three-month suspension of the motorized tricycle operator’s permit for the third and succeeding offenses, the Ordinance added.
