Mayor Calucag suspended

SOLSONA, Ilocos Norte, July 20–The DILG regional office served yesterday the suspension order against Mayor Alexander Calucag of this town for administrative charges.

The order was issued by Ombudsman suspending him for one month and one day effective yesterday.
The case arose from a complaint about the public bidding for the purchase of medicine in 2016.
When interviewed by newsmen, Calucag said that he readily accepted the suspension order.

However, he explained his side saying that no government fund was disbursed and the proper bidding process was followed for the said proposed purchase of medicine.

In accepting mistake if there was any, Calucag said his suspension may serve as a breather from stress and he planned to take a short vacation abroad.

Hopefully, he said he would be back on August 21 to reassume the mayorship post.
His political rival, Vice Mayor Joseph de Lara temporarily sits as the acting mayor in the absence of Calucag. (tri-media report)
