Lawyering is risky; debate enlivens us

A Laoag lawyer cheated death when a gunman shot his back twice that sent him to the hospital.
Lawyering for any accused in criminal cases needs to have guts and determination.
But, one must be extra cautious, security-wise, at all times if he or she wants to remain intact body and soul.

The judiciary people at Marcos Hall of Justice in Laoag City deeply mourned the ambush-killing of their colleague clerk of court and wounding of another office mate.
The incident might not be work-related. The fatality may not be the shooter’s target but the bullets went wayward hitting him.
It’s normal to think that going with a buddy with a known enemy is courting danger.
I remember a very young friend human rights lawyer who was felled by assassin’s bullets in downtown Laoag during the 1980s.
Our regular drinking bouts ended for good when he received death threats against him from an unknown group.

Capitol beat reporters enjoyed covering the Ilocos Norte provincial board session every time lady bokal Ria Fariñas and bokal Vicentito “Toto” Lazo figured in a sensible hot debate over the agenda of the day.
Debate or interpellation in the SP is a parliamentary act that enlivens a dull and boring moment, so to speak.

Acting Mayor Dr. Eileen Llaguno-Guerrero now calls the shot in the municipal government of Paoay, Ilocos Norte after the alleged vacuum of leadership for several weeks was resolved.
The beleaguered mayor, Jessie Galano, unceremoniously left his post due to a serious legal dilemma.
Senior councilor Larry Abundo now chairs the Sangguniang Bayan as the acting vice mayor.

Veteran newsman Orly R. Guirao of Laoag City and Paoay, Ilocos Norte wrote “30”.
He passed away at the age of 70 due to an illness.
During our younger days, I used to advise him to quit smoking. No way. Perhaps, he could not resist the craving for a cigarette.
The news about his recent death was known through teacher Claire Bangloy, ex-PIA man Orlando Pedro and our neighbor Nanding Angeles, a pal of Orly’s siblings.
Orly Guirao left Ilocos Norte several years ago and served as PR man of political kingpins in Pangasinan.
He also wrote as correspondent of the Manila Bulletin and Business Mirror.
RIP Orly. Farewell, my friend.

President DU30, after visiting the Cardinal Santos Hospital for a lab test of his health condition, stated that Vice President Leni Robredo is a weak leader to run the country in case he steps down from his post.
The country once endured the trials and errors of prez Cory Aquino, a plain housewife.
So, if VP Leni (a lawyer with “mahina ang diskarte” as described by Prez DU30) would rule this nation, her kind of governance you may be thinking is as good as my mind.#
