The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) has recorded a total of 2,600 job applicants since January 2018 and 92.7% employment rate for the first quarter of 2018, PESO head Anna Marie Lizette B. Atuan said.

Out of 2,600 applicants, 1,178 were hired on the spot. For the whole 2017, PESO recorded a total of 1, 090 applicants and 91.8% employment rate in the province.

“Ang mga in-demand na mga trabaho ngayon ay mula sa manpower services, retail, service sector, at business process-outsourcing (BPO),” remarked Atuan.

Yearly, the PGIN conducts the Summer Job Fair, Marcos Fiesta Job Fair, and the Year-End Job Fair.
“Malakas ang suporta galing kay Governor Imee R. Marcos. Talagang ‘Manang Imee equalsTrabaho’ mula pa noon. ‘Yung ‘Year-End Job Fair’ ay maagang Christmas gift na para sa mgaapplicant,” she added, lauding Ilocos Norte governor’s aggressive drive to create quality jobs for Ilocanos since she was first elected in 2010.

Millennial Job Fair targets SHS students

Last October 30, PGIN-PESO conducted the first “Millennial Job Fair,” which catered to senior high school (SHS) students. A total of 616 applicants were recorded and 263 were hired on the spot.
“Sabi nga ng mga kabataan: Nagadu gayam ti trabaho ditoy Ilocos Norte; apay a masapol tayo paylang ti umadayo?” (Ang dami palang trabaho dito sa Ilocos Norte, bakit kailangan pa nating lumayo?), said Atuan.

Assuring the youth that “they have a future here at home” has been one of Governor Marcos’ initiatives in employment programs.

“Magsasabay na ang ‘Summer Fob Fair’ at ’Millennial Job Fair’ para ma-cater lahat ng students, lalo na ang mga K-12 graduates na hindi pa sigurado kung ipagpapatuloy ang pag-aaral sa collegeo mag-apply na ng trabaho. Dito sa Ilocos Norte, maraming trabaho kung saan maaari silang mag-part time,” she added.

Last March, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region I awarded PGIN-PESO as best implementers of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) region-wide.

The SPES program is geared towards the employment of Ilocano youth aged 15 to 25 years old. It requires them to render 15 days of service to different provincial offices during school vacation periods.

“Ang mga kabataan ang tumutulong sa atin upang ipalaganap ang ibat-ibang trabaho dito saIlocos Norte,” Atuan ended.—(Edison Justin B. Deus, PGIN-CMO)
