Kap survives shooter’s gunfire

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Feb. 25– Police authorities quickly ruled out politics behind the shooting of a barangay captain during a road rage at Brgy. 3, this town.

Investigators said they found at the crime scene at least 22 empty shells of bullets for the unknown caliber of firearms.

Kap (popular calling in the dialect for barangay captain) emerged unhurt in the shooting. The windshield of another car parked nearby was hit by stray bullets.

Reports said Kap was driving his SUV when an improvised tricycle called kurong-kurong nearly hit his car.

Senior Inspector Eddie Suyat said the barangay captain probably had uttered bad words that irked the trike’s rider who drew a gun from his sling bag and followed by a burst of gunfire.

Police chief Suyat told reporters that the barangay chairman was subjected to a paraffin test to determine if he fired a gun in case he was also armed during the incident. (r.m./tri-media report)
