Ex-councilman’s house sprayed with bullets

BACARRA, Ilocos Norte, April 27–Unidentified gunmen sprayed with bullets the residential house of former barangay councilman Fred Eda at Brgy. Libtong, this town, police said.

No casualty was reported in the early dawn incident.

Major Ryan Retutar, town police chief, said the incident was not election-related despite reports that the former councilman’s brother Nestor Eda is serving as one of the security men of incumbent Bacarra Mayor Nicomedes de la Cruz.

Investigators theorized that the target of the suspects was probably Nestor Eda who used to go home at Brgy. Libtong at 4:30 a.m. after his night duty.
Incidentally, Nestor didn’t go home that time when the shooting occurred, relatives said.

Found at the crime scene were bullet’s empty shells for caliber .45 pistol and M-16 Armalite rifle, the police said.

The gunmen apparently positioned themselves behind a mango tree situated near Eda’s house.

It was learned that the house of councilman Eda was the regular place where the Small Town Lottery (STL) bets were drawn.

At press time, Major Retutar told reporters that they already have one person of interest as they stepped up their investigation. (tri-media report)
